Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 16 August 2024 – Honoring a shared history of vitality and competitive spirit, Ferrari is celebrating its 70-year presence in the United States with a brilliant Monterey Car Week display on August 17–18. The annual Concorso Ferrari, a showcase of 70 classic Ferrari automobiles representing the finest examples of the marque’s history in American road and racing cars, will emerge on the First Fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links®, appearing concurrent with the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance®. A livestream of the Ferrari Procession on Saturday, August 17 at 2:30 P.M. PST will spotlight a sweeping array of Ferraris as they arrive on the fairway, with commentary and interviews, on the official Ferrari YouTube channel.
The annual automotive gathering on the California coast is a fitting venue for reflecting on America’s role in the accomplishments of the Prancing Horse over the last seven decades. Since 1954, when Luigi Chinetti opened the first Ferrari dealership in the United States and founded the famed North American Racing Team (N.A.R.T), America has helped lay a foundation upon which the automaker has continued to build. Ferrari grew to become a powerful force, inspired by the Maranello carmaker’s race-dominating performance and elegant Italian design, capturing the hearts and dreams of motorsports enthusiasts throughout the continent.
Illustrious race wins have fueled this fascination, including 1967’s 1-2-3 victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona with two 330 P4 models and a 412 P; Mario Andretti’s 1972 wins at 6 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring driving a Ferrari 312 P; and Gianpiero Moretti’s MOMO racing team winning the 1998 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring with the Ferrari 333 SP. Many iconic Ferrari model names embrace the North American continent and resonate a sense of place, stemming from the 250 California, America and Superamerica series.
Among the historically significant models in attendance at the Concorso Ferrari this weekend are a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB4 N.A.R.T. Spider, one of only 10 in the world by coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti; a 1950 166 MM Touring barchetta, originally owned and raced by Scuderia Ferrari, winning the 12 Hours of Paris with Chinetti and Jean Lucas at the wheel; and a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM, regarded as among the all-time greatest Ferrari models ever created, that raced at 24 Hours of Daytona with Innes Ireland, Mike Hailwood, and George Drummond.
One section of the fairway is reserved for the ‘Daytona’ models: 365 GTB4 and 365 GTS4. These iconic V12-powered GTs defined the pinnacle of performance and style throughout the production years 1968–1973, and remain high points of Maranello’s rich history of innovation and style. Other special categories displayed at the event include the F60 America, California legacy (early and later models), Tailor Made personalized vehicles, and significant cars featured in American entertainment, including models such as the Testarossa recalling the television series Miami Vice and the 308 GTS in Magnum, P.I.
Appearing alongside these now and future classics, the current Ferrari model line-up demonstrates Maranello’s ongoing innovation in engineering and design. Ferrari 12Cilindri and 12Cilindri Spider, the newest production models, unveiled earlier this year in Miami, feature the latest evolution of the iconic Ferrari V12 engine, with ultra-modern styling inspired by the elegant Grand Tourers of the 1950s and ’60s. A carbon-look Ferrari Daytona SP3 will also take the stage. The sculptural, cutting-edge styling of this limited-edition Icona Series commission, with its naturally-aspirated, mid-rear-mounted 840 CV V12 engine, builds upon Formula 1 competition-quality composite materials and technologies otherwise unseen in a road car.
Seventy years ago, Founder Enzo Ferrari recognized the tremendous power of the American market—envisioning a future comprised of the most dedicated Ferraristi in the world, each connected to our unique community through shared passion and love for the Prancing Horse. The North American presence Ferrari enjoys today is built on this indefatigable spirit of determination and talent: a quest for excellence that is the hallmark of this illustrious marque.
